Surfing
Home to some of Australia's best surfing beaches and professional surf athletes including Ali Day and Sally Fitzgibbons. A popular destination for a variety of high profile wave-riding events and competitions. Whether it's catching your first wave, or hanging ten, you'll find your favourite break along the Kiama Coast.
Bombo Beach, Bombo
A 1200-metre stretch of sand and surf that links central Kiama with Kiama Downs. Bombo Beach is predominantly a surfing beach, with strong rips and sandbars which can create hazardous conditions for swimmers. At the northern end, Bombo Beach Headland offers your four-legged friends the chance to let loose and test their skills in the dog agility park. Off-leash dogs are also welcome to enjoy the surf and sand in the centre of Bombo Beach between sunrise and sunset.
While in the area, you should take the chance to walk around the headland – which features the remains of an abandoned quarry – to reach the rocky coastline on the other side. This dramatic landscape is known as The Boneyard; littered with hexagonal columns of basalt (and home to famous Cathedral Rock), it’s an incredible destination for photography lovers. Bombo Beach can be easily reached via public transport from Sydney and Wollongong, with a train station located just metres from the sand.
Surf Beach, Kiama
Surf Beach Holiday Park cabins offer spectacular views overlooking Kiama’s main beach and is located a short walk from Kiama’s main streets, shops and cafes. Surrounded by a grassy park and children’s play equipment, it is popular for both swimming and surfing, with surfers calling the northern break “The Wedge”. Surf Beach Holiday Park cabins offer spectacular views. The beach is patrolled daily from the October long weekend through to Easter.
Werri Beach, Gerringong
Located in the charming township of Gerringong, on a sweeping beach between two rocky headlands, opposite Werri Beach Holiday Park. Best suited to intermediate or experienced surfers, with surf breaks at both ends of the beach. A legendary break, Werri Beach is home to some of Australia's best surfing events and competitions.
Seven Mile Beach, Gerroa
Backed onto Gerroa's only beachside Holiday Park - Seven Mile Beach Holiday Park - you'll find surf stretching for seven miles. The perfect break for for beginners and promises a wave in almost any conditions.
